According to authorities, Brice went on a “killing spree” and shot three women in separate incidents in Florida: his mother, his cousin, and the new partner of his ex-girlfriend. Which was his alleged cousin! Brice was pronounced dead on the scene after the police caught up to him and shots were fired at the killer after he fired shots first.
Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells stated at a press conference that the suspect, 28-year-old Javontee Brice (view his page), first went to an apartment in Palmetto where his sister and ex-girlfriend were located before the events of Monday night.
“He looked at the ex-girlfriend and said, ‘I have to kill you.’ Somehow the sister was able to talk him down and talk him out of him shooting this ex-girlfriend,” Wells said. “She later told investigators that he was acting very strange.”
The sheriff claimed that Wells next drove to a Motel 6 in Bradenton, where his mother, his two younger sisters, and the mother’s boyfriend were lodging.
Approximately 9:15 p.m.
,“he walked into that hotel room, looked at the mother and said, ‘I’m sorry,'” Wells added.
“She asked, ‘What did you do?‘ And he shoots her three times in front of the boyfriend and these two innocent young juveniles,” Wells counted.
The sheriff claimed that Brice then drove to a Palmetto home where one of his cousins was having a cookout. Around 9:40 p.m., the sheriff claimed that Wells shot his cousin as she was getting into her car to drive away. About an hour later, the 29-year-old cousin passed away, according to the sheriff.
After that, according to the sheriff, Brice drove to a Bradenton residence where her new partner and another ex-girlfriend resided. According to Wells, Brice shot and killed the new partner at approximately 10:04 p.m.
The sheriff’s office claimed to have sent out a statewide “Be On the Lookout” alert for Brice’s vehicle, which was eventually located in Hamilton County, close to the Georgia state line.
According to Wells, authorities have discovered that Brice “possibly has another ex-girlfriend” in Georgia and may have been driving there with the intention of killing her.
Brice was stopped by police at around 1:30 in the morning. According to Wells, Brice exited the vehicle and began shooting at police on Tuesday in Hamilton County.
Brice was shot and killed by the responding officers, according to Wells.
The sheriff stated that a woman who was with Brice when he was pulled over is being questioned.
“We don’t know her relation to him at this point, but she was in the car when the shootout took place,” Said Wells.
According to Wells, Brice’s family is “devastated” by the deaths of his mother and cousin, but investigators plan to speak with the family members to find out what Brice “may have been going through the last few days.”
“He seemed to have an agenda; he knew exactly who he wanted to kill and he did not have a hard time locating them,” Wells said.
“We don’t know what set this man off. We don’t know why he chose to kill his loved ones,” the sheriff continued, adding “We may never know, but we’re going to continue to investigate.”
