According to CBS News, Deborah Clenney and Kim Dewayne were taken into custody in January 2024 on suspicion of possessing Obumesli’s laptop. The parents were accused by the prosecutors of having illegal access to a computer, computer system, or electronic device.
Courtney was also charged with second-degree murder in addition to the other charges. Later, her parents were set free. But a warrant ordering their surrender by March 2024 was issued. They were freed once more after posting bond in February.
