A Florida woman and her spouse have been detained and charged with child abuse. The couple were taken into custody after the mother’s 15-year-old daughter arrived at school with cockroaches in her book bag.
Additionally, the teenager was alleged to be wearing dirty clothes.

Samantha Acker and Christopher Rounds, both 37, were arrested on Tuesday. There are four counts of child neglect charged against each of them.

WESH reports that the couple is engaged to wed and lives with four children ages 8, 10, 15, and 16. The outlet reports that Acker is the mother of all the children. Rounds is the father of only two, however, Rounds is the father of only two.
An abuse hotline reported that one of the children was pushed while on a video call in the home. A Volusia County high school teacher revealed to authorities that the 15-year-old student arrived at school in dirty clothes and had cockroaches in her book bag.
WESH reports that the 15-year-old is mute and deaf.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the couple’s home on Tuesday. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by WKMG, authorities found the house “completely infested” with roaches and other insects. “Mold, trash, old food and dirty clothes” were all over the place, according to WESH.
The area outside the house was covered in over 200 cigarette butts, according to WKMG. Additionally, the home’s lack of a functioning air conditioner left the temperature at 85 degrees, according to WESH.
Multiple animals were also inside the residence, and the children’s bed sheets were infested with roaches and insects, according to the outlet.
The affidavit says Rounds told officers that the home was in disarray due to financial issues. Meanwhile, Acker reportedly explained that the house was a mess because the children did not help her clean.
The home was not that bad, according to reports, according to Acker.
According to the affidavit, the 15-year-old is profoundly deaf and uses only sign language to communicate. No one in the house knows sign language to communicate with her.
According to the publication, the youngsters have been temporarily relocated.
