A mother’s death was caused by an eviction notice she sent to her son earlier this year. According to PEOPLE, Conner Kobold, now 20 years old, is being held in Indiana on charges of strangling Shanelle Burns on February 5.
The 43-year-old mother had given him a notice about living with her on a conditional basis prior to her passing. He was nineteen years old at the time. In reaction to the incident, he was charged with both murder and aggravated battery by the local prosecutors.
Mom’s Death After Son’s Eviction Notice
As previously stated, Burns gave her son two options on the specified date: he could fulfill specific requirements or be expelled from her house. According to the Chicago Post-Tribune, she allegedly gave her 19-year-old son 30 days to find a full-time job, tidy his room, and keep the common areas of the house clean.
Conner seems, though, to have taken the eviction notice seriously. On February 5, there was a confrontation at some point. Conner allegedly called 911 several times after strangling his mother.
Conner requested that the officer who pulled up put him in handcuffs and put him in the patrol car, according to court documents obtained by WGN9 Chicago. In the house on the 1300 block of Diamond Boulevard, he allegedly told the police that he had “killed somebody.”
Indiana’s Valparaiso.
The arresting officer stated that Conner had minor facial scratches. His mother’s body lay in the living room when the police arrived. Rumor has it that there were indications of a struggle inside the home.
Shanelle Burns died of asphyxiation secondary to manual strangulation, according to an autopsy conducted later.
What Takes Place With Conner Kobold Next?
It is reported that Conner entered a not guilty plea to his charges. He asked the court to represent himself earlier this year.
He said the following in response to the judge’s question about whether he thought he had the “skills or abilities” to represent himself:
“I believe my case is so unique that the only person who can explain what happened and why it happened is myself,” Conner told the judge in February, per the Chicago Post-Tribune.
Kobold allegedly disclosed at that same hearing that he had visited two inpatient mental health facilities and five therapists.
An online docket reveals that the court assigned him a public defender in April, according to PEOPLE. The strange eviction notice story is starting to gain traction on social media, and his trial is scheduled to start in August.
The 20-year-old, meanwhile, is said to still be detained at Porter County Jail after having his bond previously denied.
