Following her ex-husband Safaree Samuels‘ statement that his split from Nicki Minaj was the “biggest struggle” he had ever faced, Erica Mena could not keep quiet on that one!
Safaree Samuels Shares His Time About His Breakup With Nicki Minaj
The ‘We In Miami’ podcast announced last week that Safaree was their newest guest on Instagram. The podcast then released a promotional video earlier this week that featured a discussion of one of the subjects with the rapper.
The host questioned Safaree about his “biggest struggle or obstacle” that he had “ever had to overcome” in the video. The rapper responded by saying that “her fans and certain people” wanted to “let him be nothing” following their breakup with Minaj.
“I was with Nicki, we broke up, so her fans and certain people, they just wanted it to be like, ‘Oh okay, they’re not together no more — f**k him. Let him be nothing, let him disintegrate, let him disappear…’” Safaree recalled. ” But nine — ten years later… I’m still here, and you know, some people don’t like that.”
Following their breakup, Safaree continued, Minaj started dating fellow rapper Meek Mill, and “they were like the biggest couple in the world.” He also clarified that they were “all beefing.”
“You gotta think about it — I had two of the biggest people in the world like against me,” Safaree said. “So that made everybody be against me. So nobody wanted to be next to me, nobody wanted to work with me or none of that s**t….”
The rapper ultimately explained that that period was a “dark time” for him.

Erica Mena Reacts To The Nicki Minaj Comments Alongside Social Media
In the end, the rapper clarified that it was a “dark time” for him.
Mena chimed in to share a few words about her ex-husband.
“… I will FOREVER be embarrassed,” she wrote. “I gave sis these incredible beautiful babies. He don’t even talk or care about his seeds this much online or [in] real life.”
Safaree has not yet responded to his ex-wife’s remarks in public.
Erica Mena Has Previously Publicly Criticized Safaree
Pinkvilla claims that Safaree dated Minaj from 2000 to 2014. In 2019, as previously reported by sources, the rapper got married to Mena.
On the other hand, Mena divorced Safaree in 2021 while expecting their second child according to sources.
The couple’s relationship seemed to be going south at that point when Mena accused Safaree of being careless while she was pregnant. Furthermore, sources claim that after the birth of their second child, Safaree was seen celebrating his birthday in Jamaica while the child was still in the NICU.
Finalization of the couple’s divorce occurred in September of 2022. However, sources claim that Mena would subsequently criticize Safaree for turning her into a “single mother twice.”
Tensions between the former couple reportedly flared in April 2023 when Safaree allegedly gave Rolex watches to Amara Le Negra’s kids, their co-star on “Love & Hip Hop,” according to insiders. In the end, Mena referred to Safaree as a “deadbeat clown.”
Sources claim that Safaree’s extravagant gifts to La Negra’s kids at the time raised questions about whether or not they were dating. Later on in the year, though, La Negra seemed to admit that their romantic suggestion was a ruse to boost TV ratings.
