Details On The Florida Man & His Charges
On Saturday, July 6, a man named Brandon Gilmore, 31, was taken into custody, according to WESH. According to reports, Gilmore is currently being charged with “aggravated child abuse.”
Furthermore, according to Fox 35 Orlando, Gilmore is allegedly being held at the Volusia County jail. The 31-year-old is being held without bond, the outlet continues.
What Allegedly Happened With Brandon Gilmore & The Child
According to WESH, the incident happened on Saturday. The toddler’s mother, who has not been made public, and Gilmore are said to have met at a Daytona Beach resort. The Sandals Inn is the name of the resort, according to Fox 35 Orlando.
Gilmore allegedly told the child’s mother he was taking him outside to play and “scare him a little bit” at around eight o’clock in the evening.
According to the outlet, Gilmore then hung the young child by his feet over the balcony. The 31-year-old allegedly dropped the four-year-old head first, according to witnesses.
The child fell two stories to the ground, according to the outlet. According to Fox 35 Orlando, the police shared an arrest affidavit detailing the events of the incident along with a later review of security footage of the incident.
“Officers observed (Gilmore) exited the hotel room carrying the child in a normal way, holding him in his arms. Officers observed (Gilmore) carrying the child to the balcony and holding the child by one leg, with his head positioned to the ground, then proceeding to drop him from the second-floor balcony,” the arrest affidavit reportedly reads.
The outlet also notes that prior to the incident, Gilmore and the mother of the child had consumed alcohol. The four-year-old was taken to the hospital on a trauma alert, according to WESH. “Serious and severe internal injuries,” including “blunt force trauma to his head,” were reportedly sustained by the child.
According to WESH, the child’s condition is still unknown. Nonetheless, the incident has been reported to the Department of Children and Families.
Another alarming incident has recently occurred involving children in Florida.
The incident regarding Gilmore and the four-year-old is not the first shocking incident to occur within the last month. As previously reported, in June, a 27-year-old woman was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and domestic battery after running over her boyfriend and a 16-month-old infant.
Aaliyah Ross was accused of doing this after getting into an argument with her boyfriend. According to police, the woman had previously acted as if she were going to run over her boyfriend in several instances. However, this time, she believed he would have moved out of the way.
Ross’ boyfriend experienced bruising to his body and lungs, according to ABC7 WWSB. The infant was hospitalized after sustaining a broken left shoulder collar bone, multiple broken ribs, a partially collapsed lung, and abrasions and bruising to his body.
As an investigation was reported to be ongoing, the outlet also reported that the Department of Children and Families had become involved.
