In a recent and heartfelt TikTok Live session, Kate Gosselin, the 50-year-old former star of Jon & Kate Plus 8 and Kate Plus 8, addressed longstanding rumors surrounding college funds for her eight children.

Kate’s Defense Amid Allegations

Kate categorically denied accusations that she misappropriated money meant for her children’s college. She stated, “That I stole my kids’ college money? They all have their college money, all the money that was in my control, anyway. And they have more than enough for college. That’s not a thing. That never happened. I’ll just leave it at that.”

She emphasized that all of her children have funds available for their higher education, attributing that ability to their early reality TV earnings. Kate even confirmed reminiscing about an episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 in which she and Jon Gosselin discussed setting aside college money, replying “Yep!” when a fan pointed this out.

Accusations from Collin Gosselin

The accusation originated with her estranged son, Collin Gosselin, one of the sextuplets, who claimed during his own TikTok Live that she took “a very substantial amount” of money from his and his siblings’ UTMA (Uniform Transfers to Minors Act) accounts. He stated, “Money was taken out of the account that was made for me and my siblings…I literally have transcripts…where she admits to it.”

The allegations aren’t new. In 2022, Jon Gosselin accused Kate Gosselin of withdrawing over $100,000 from trust funds intended for their children’s education. Court documents from 2019 reportedly show Kate admitting to taking out $50,000 on two occasions, claiming she used the funds for living expenses and that the children “owe her” for private school tuition paid with joint income. “I borrowed $100,000 from the kids’ trust,” she allegedly told the court. “And it owes me $387,000 technically.”

Jon strongly condemned the action, calling it “disgusting and morally wrong,” and lamented the lack of repayment and documentation.

Kate’s Current Financial Reality & Work

Amid the controversy, Kate Gosselin has shared the financial toll the legal battles have taken on her. She revealed she’s returned to her original profession as a pediatric home health care nurse, working arduous 12-hour shifts. She attributed the drain on her finances to costly court appearances:

“Providing for 8 kids, college funds which I am proud to say covered all of their college and more and LAWYERS. Sickening but I was dragged into court constantly and that costs A TON.”

She added that while her reality TV earnings covered basics including a home, private school, and college funds the legal fees wiped out retirement savings.
