Mysterious animal tales are heard & often told, though not many are particularly like the the horrific and fatal elephant attack of a 68-year-old woman in India.
On a normal day for Maya Murmu was gathering water in a village called Raipai. Raipai is located in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, India. There, Maya noticed a herd of elephants. Once spotted by her, the woman tried to flee the scene as the herd of animals charged her way. It was reported by The Times of India as the elephants drew closer to Maya, One of the elephants jetted toward and brutally stomped her.
Maya Murmu was hurried to the emergency room, then later died from her traumatic injuries.
Maya’s relatives obtained her lifeless body by taking it home for memorial preparations, which they had taken place the same evening. That’s when a shock of a lifetime came about that no one had ever expected.
While Maya’s ceremony was being held, a herd of elephants emerged from the woods, sending villagers panicking and fleeing the event. Maya’s body was left untouched, that was until one of the elephants then pounced on the deceased woman’s corpse by picking up the body and flinging it in the air. Reported by The Times of India,
video of the alleged incident published by The Times Of India, a herd of elephants is seen in the forest as one hounding a villager as grievers yell in the direction of the elephants.
The gang of vicious elephants destroyed Maya’s home, There were also three other homes being vandalized due to the attack.
No other villagers were reported to be injured.
The Times of India, were given a statement
“We were terrified after witnessing the elephant herd on Thursday evening. We have never had such a ferocious elephant bunch earlier.”
Maya’s relatives continued with the memorial when learning the herd of elephants left the location.
According to The Print, the endangered elephant had wandered from the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, which is more than 100 miles away from Odisha.
The actions and behavior of an animal that’s notoriously known for their kindness and gentleness have has so many questioning what could’ve caused such an incident.
Despite the lack of confirmation about the elephant’s motive, numerous online users have put forth the theory that the woman was associated with a poacher group that had killed the elephant’s baby.
