Serena Williams brought the jokes with her while hosting the 2024 ESPY Awards!
Serena Gets Her Get Back At Drake
Serena Williams’s annual ceremony monologue featured multiple moments that went viral.
The media was particularly taken aback by an incident in which she appeared to poke fun at Drake.
When bringing up the beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, the tennis player joked that she wouldn’t want to smoke with K.Dot because of his achievements following his rap feud with Drake.
“If I’ve learned anything this year, it is that none of us, not a single one of us, not even me, should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar. He will make your hometown not like you.” Serena said while onstage.
The crowd erupted in applause as soon as Serena began dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s diss song, “Not Like Us,” which was playing in the background following her statement.
The Grand Slam winner soon followed, mocking that Drake’s rivalry with Kendrick would result in his disownment from the Toronto Raptors.
“The next time Drake sits courtside at a Raptors game, they are going to Forest Gump him,” Serena said.
What Happened Between Drake & Serena Williams?
Drake’s 2022 joint album with 21 Savage, “Her Loss,” featured a call out to Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, which initially strained relations between the two.
The Canadian rapper calls Ohanian a ‘groupie‘ in his solo song from the album “Middle Of The Ocean.”
“Sidebar, Serena, your husband a groupie / He claim we don’t got a problem but / No, boo, it is, like you comin’ for sushi / We might pop up on ’em at will like Suzuki,” Drake says in the song.
Fans conjectured about Drake’s possible relationship with Serena after hearing his bars. UPROXX claims that since Drizzy started showing up at Serena’s tennis matches in 2011, the two have been spotted out together a few times. According to the outlet, in 2015, they actually exited the US Open semifinals together.
When Serena’s husband learned of Drake’s remarks on the “Her Loss” album, he didn’t think twice to clap back at him. In November 2022, the founder of Reddit took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share his enjoyment of being his wife’s and their daughter’s best groupie.
The reason I stay winning is because I’m relentless about being the absolute best at whatever I do — including being the best groupie for my wife & daughter. pic.twitter.com/oaEKuRWFnj
