The Return Of ‘Martin’ Show
The popular 90s sitcom “Young Martin,” a new hour-long drama series from Martin Lawrence and his production company RunTelDat, in association with WonderHill Studios of Marvin Peart, is set to return, according to Deadline.
The publication also disclosed that “Young Martin” will center on Martin Payne, a charming young man navigating the transition from childhood to adulthood. In homage to the original program that ran on Fox from 1992 to 1997, the new version of Lawrence’s character from “Martin” will be featured in the program.
The fact that “Young Martin” will take place in contemporary Detroit and continue to examine themes of friendship, family, and life will please fans.
WonderHill CEO Marvin Peart praised the “Martin” series in a Deadline interview, calling it a positive TV classic that portrayed a relatable group of friends.
“Out of all the hit shows during the 90s, there was only one ‘Martin’ — a show that defined culture and positivity,” Peart explained.
Peart keeps praising Martin Lawrence, stressing the ways in which he has influenced African American culture both off and on screen.
“I respected and revered Martin Lawrence for creating Martin Payne and what he did for African Americans on television in front and behind the camera. In many ways, he influenced my path in the entertainment industry, and it’s an honor to partner with Martin and his younger self and share him with the next generation of fans,” Peart continued.
More Details On ‘Young Martin’ Series
Young Martin will take a similar route to the revival of “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” which is produced by Will Smith, Lawrence’s longtime film co-star.
According to Deadline, “Martin” won People’s Choice and NAACP Image Awards during its five-season run.
The outlet claims that Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, Tichina Arnold, and Carl Anthony Payne II, among other members of the original cast, got back together for a 30th anniversary special on BET+ in 2022. The special also included performances by Bryan McKnight and Snoop Dogg.
Reportedly, Martin got back together with the cast for the 75th Emmy Awards. Except for the late Thomas Mikal Ford, the ensemble performed a sentimental piece on stage in January.
