A Burger King Employee Hires Her Son & His Friends To Escape Summer Violence
In order to keep the friend group out of trouble, Shakayla Dixon wanted to assign jobs to them. The job provided a refuge from the pervasive violence in the Jackson metropolitan area. Their home was in Clinton, a short drive from the city where summertime violence is most prevalent. She also believed that it was an excellent way for the teenagers to make money prior to the start of school."I felt like it was a good thing because we could have really been out doing violence or shooting," said Corderrion Valentine, 15, one of the boys hired; instead, he "went out and worked." Valentine is Dixon's son. Shakayla shared a picture of the team on Facebook because she was so proud of them. "Later that evening...the post started doing numbers," the woman stated. It went viral very quickly. Even Nick Cannon, the host, shared the image again on Instagram. He received more than 90,000 likes.
