A Florida preschool teacher is facing charges after allegedly hitting and pulling a 4-year-old autistic kid. WKMG reported that the woman was arrested on Thursday.
Information On The Florida Elementary Teacher’s Charges
The publication reports that Stacy Strnad, 48, was detained by Edgewater Police on Thursday at her Port Orange, Florida, residence. Strnad has been hit with child abuse and battery charges, according to reports.
WKMG reports that the woman has since bonded out of jail. However, a statement from Volusia County Schools reveals that Strnad has now been placed on leave pending the police department’s investigation.
“On Thursday, Sept. 7, a teacher at Indian River Elementary School was arrested for allegedly slapping a student. The teacher has been placed on leave pending an investigation,” the statement read, as per WKMG.
Volusia County Schools immediately responded to the incident after following all protocols, according to the statement. As the investigation progresses, the district is collaborating with authorities.
Volusia County Schools said that it takes any behavior that jeopardizes the safety of our students and parent’s trust seriously. Furthermore, the statement stated that the district strives to foster a safe and respectful learning environment for its students.
“Any such behavior that does not align with these standards will not be tolerated.”
The Alleged Child Abuse Incident
Edgewater Police Captain Charles Geiger explained to the outlet that authorities were informed of the incident Thursday. Fox 35 Orlando reports that the incident took place that same day, and that the incident took place that same day.
The investigation revealed that the teacher allegedly hit the unidentified 4-year-old with his open hand twice on his arm. She grabbed the child by his arm and pulled him backwards when he ran away from Strnad. The kid fell and cut their arm on a bookcase, according to reports.
