Amy Slayton Halterman Arrested on Drug and Child Endangerment Charges at Tennessee Zoo
Reality TV star Amy Slayton Halterman was arrested on drug and child endangerment charges at the Tennessee Zoo on Labor Day.
The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Monday that Halterman, 36, who is best known for starring with her sister on TLC’s “1,000-lb Sisters,” is facing two counts of unlawful possession of a Schedule I substance, unlawful possession of a Schedule VI substance and child endangerment.
Deputies responded to a call at the Tennessee Safari Park, a drive-through and walk-through zoo located in Alamo, saying a guest had been bitten by a camel.
Upon arrival, deputies noticed “a strong suspicious odor coming from the guest’s vehicle,” according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities did not reveal the source of the odor but confirmed that Halterman and Brian Scott Loveworn were in the vehicle and both face similar charges.
They were booked into the Crockett County Jail on Tuesday, and a judge set bonds for each at $10,000.
According to People magazine, Halterman has two children, Gage Deon Halterman, 4, and Glenn Alan Halterman, 2, with Michael Halterman, who filed for divorce in March 2023.
It is not yet clear who was bitten by the camel or whether Halterman’s children were present during the incident, according to People magazine.
“1,000-Pound Sisters” premiered on TLC in 2020 and follows the weight loss journey of two Kentucky sisters — Amy and her older sister Tammy.
Legal Update: Amy Slayton Halterman Reaches Plea Deal
Amy Slayton Halterman has taken a significant step in her legal situation.
Following her arrest at the Tennessee Zoo in September, Amy pleaded guilty to simple possession under a plea deal reached at the Crockett County Courthouse in Tennessee, according to court records obtained by E! News.
The documents also note that authorities have dropped charges of child abuse and child endangerment against Amy, who shares her children, 4-year-old Gage Deon Halterman and 2-year-old Glenn Alan Halterman, with ex-husband Michael Halterman.
Action News 5 reports that Judge Paul Conley sentenced Amy and Brian Scott Loveworn — her co-defendant — to two years of supervised probation, meaning neither of them will have to serve any time in jail. In addition, Amy must pay a $1,000 fine, attend an alcohol and drug evaluation, and is prohibited from contacting the Tennessee Safari Park Zoo.
Authorities confirmed that Amy and Brian were allegedly found to have marijuana and illegal mushrooms in their vehicle “in plain sight” before they were taken into custody.
A law enforcement source told PEOPLE that Amy’s sister and co-star, Tammy Slayton, came to the zoo to pick up Amy’s children.
After the arrest, Amy and Brian were released on $10,000 bond on September 3, and a source told People that they were “holding hands” when Amy’s brother, Chris Combs, picked them up.
