FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Action News has uncovered new information about the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Caleb Quick outside a Clovis McDonald’s. The 16-year-old suspect’s defense attorney suggests the shooting may have been motivated by sexual misconduct allegations against Quick.
Attorney Mark Coleman, who represented the juvenile defendant in the April case, told Action News in an exclusive interview that the tragedy may have been caused by “serious harm” Quick caused.
“It wasn’t about money or personal gain,” Coleman explained. “It was about avenging a serious wrong done to someone else.”
Coleman said police reports and witness accounts suggest Quick may have been involved in multiple acts of sexual misconduct. He noted that key evidence was found on Quick’s phone on April 14. The footage shows a sexual act with a girl who later told investigators she blacked out and did not remember giving consent.
According to Coleman, the girl only learned of the incident when Quick sent her the video.
“Based on the police findings, the motive behind this shooting was that someone knew about the assault and the recording,” Coleman said. “They believed Caleb had done this multiple times and felt they had to stop it.”
He also said investigators have identified at least two other similar cases involving Quick.
Detectives interviewed several of Quick’s friends — one claimed he repeatedly beat her and once forced her to have sex. Another friend told officers that Caleb’s inappropriate behavior was widely known and involved multiple visits.
