Amy Romero is taking legal action after what was supposed to be a relaxing spa treatment turned into a nightmare. The New York resident has filed a lawsuit against New You Laser NYC, claiming the spa left her with first-degree burns all over her body. The incident, which occurred during what Romero thought would be a routine laser treatment, has left her not only physically scarred but emotionally distressed as well.
The Spa Treatment Gone Wrong
According to Amy Romero, she visited New You Laser NYC for a standard laser procedure, but things quickly took a turn for the worse. “I trusted them with my body, and they completely betrayed that trust,” Romero stated. She alleges that during the treatment, she began feeling intense pain and discomfort, but the staff assured her it was normal. “They told me the pain was just part of the process, but I knew something was wrong,” she added.
The Aftermath
After the treatment, Romero noticed severe redness and blistering on her skin. Within hours, her condition worsened, and she was diagnosed with first-degree burns. “I was in shock,” Romero said. “I never expected to leave a spa in worse condition than when I walked in.” The burns reportedly covered significant portions of her body, leaving her in constant pain and requiring extensive medical care.
Legal Action
Now, Amy Romero is seeking justice. She has filed a lawsuit against New You Laser NYC, accusing them of negligence and malpractice. “No one should have to go through what I went through,” Romero declared. Her attorney, John Martinez, echoed her sentiments, stating, “This is a clear case of negligence. My client went in for a routine treatment and left with life-altering injuries.”
The Spa’s Response
New You Laser NYC has yet to comment publicly on the lawsuit. However, sources close to the spa have hinted that they may argue that Romero was informed of potential risks before the procedure. “We take our clients’ safety very seriously,” an unnamed source allegedly stated, though no official statement has been released.
What’s Next?
Amy Romero’s lawsuit is set to bring attention to the standards and practices of laser treatments in the beauty industry. As her case moves forward, it serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of such procedures. “I just want to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else,” Romero said.
The outcome of this lawsuit could have significant implications for spas and beauty treatment providers, emphasizing the importance of proper care and client safety.
Laser Hair Removal Incident
According to TMZ, Romero claims that she experienced burning sensations in her underarms and vagina during a trip to New York for a “laser hair removal” session in February 2023.
In her lawsuit, Romero explained that during the treatment, she experienced a severe burning sensation she had never experienced before. She expressed her concerns to the technician, who ignored her complaints.
Instead, the technician assured Romero that the device was set to a normal temperature. The technician also suggested that the pain could be linked to Romero’s menstrual cycle.
Romero claims that the technician did not check or adjust the temperature of the machine. She also noted that the laser appeared “brighter and more yellow than usual,” but the technician continued the procedure despite her warnings.
When Romero mentioned that her underarms were burning, the technician allegedly started the treatment on her vagina, which caused a “burning” sensation. Eventually, Romero stopped the procedure herself. According to the DailyMail, the incident occurred on January 19, 2023, at her home in Valley Stream, Long Island.
Candle Explosion Injury
Renita had lit a three-wick Bath & Body Works “Sweater Weather” candle, but it exploded when she leaned over to smell it. The explosion caused severe burns to her hands and face.
She described a “shock of fire and debris” hitting her directly in the face. Her skin felt “intense,” her eyebrows were burned, her eyelashes melted, and there were significant scars on her hands and face, according to the New York Post.
The candle on the dresser was black, warped, and riddled with holes. After being taken to the hospital, Renita was diagnosed with second-degree burns. The traumatic experience left her severely shaken, disrupting her once vibrant, social life.
Renita, once known as the “life of the party” and a favorite at social gatherings, now faces empathy, urgency and intrusive questions. The complaint states that she hesitates before joining social events.
Frequent laser-hair removal problems
Nguyen had her first session with Hans on Dec. 29, 2017, but court papers say the machine setting was too high, causing her pain.
Hans then chose a different employee for her next three sessions, which went smoothly. However, during her fifth session, her favorite esthetician was unavailable, so she had to see Nguyen again.
Before the appointment, Hans asked the receptionist to remind Nguyen to be careful during the treatment. According to the lawsuit, she personally urged Nguyen to handle the machine carefully to avoid the pain she experienced during her initial session.
